We did the test once. I was in the cockpit on the phone with my colleague standing next to the brakes and he could not notice any difference on the wear pin while I was setting the parking on and off.
Unless he was not checking properly, I don’t undestand why the FCOM wants us to set the brakes in order to check the brake wear since the wear pin is visible anyway.
