The usual claim of hijacking followed by the usual denial.

Why it wasn't a hijack attempt, a passenger was merely attempting to gain unauthorized access to the flight deck using a tableware utensil.

A KNIFEMAN has "attempted to hijack" a FlyDubai flight from Dubai to Kabul, threatening cabin crew in terrifying scenes in Iranian airspace.

The FlyDubai flight was thrown into chaos when a passenger armed with a knife threatened cabin crew in an attempt to gain access to the cockpit.

Aviation expert Alex Machetes confirmed the news on Twitter this evening.

He said: “Passenger onboard Fly Dubai flight #FZ301 tried to access cockpit of the jet mid-flight by threatening cabin crew with a knife.

“The alarming incident took place on #UAE low cost FlyDubai 737, en route earlier today from Dubai (DXB) to Kabul (KBL).”

He later: "The passenger involved was met by the relevant authorities on the aircraft’s arrival back at Dubai.

"Passengers tell me the situation unfolded in the forward galley, after a man approached with a knife & demanded access to the cockpit. Concerning incident."

ANA news agency said cabin crew succeeded in imprisoning the knifeman in a toilet. By the time the plane returned to Dubai the man had been tied to a chair.

UAE's GCAA denies hijacking of flydubai plane in Iranian airspace

The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) denied today the news of what is being circulated about an attempt to hijack a plane belongs to the national carrier flydubai in Iranian airspace.

Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, emphasised that flight No. FZ301, which was heading from Dubai to Kabul, has returned to Dubai and all the passengers resumed their flight that left Dubai International Airport at 08:31 am.

"The accidental incident happened as a result of a behaviour of one of the passengers who was detained by the competent authorities upon the arrival of the plane to the airport," he explained.
