I'm not sure I understand the distinction you are drawing. It seems to me to be a significant security issue for a flight attendant, who has a good shot at gaining access to the cockpit, and whose actions are critical in the event of an emergency, to be in the kind of condition described here. There would appear to be some kind of process failure that (maybe?) necessitated intervention by a passenger rather than buy a fellow crewmember.
