I have Canadian credit cards which give me world-wide car rental insurance. I never take optional insurance. I must have saved thousands of dollars over the years. In North America, it is so commonplace that agents don't query it when I decline their expensive cover. I've occasionally had an attempted "hard sell" in Britain.
