Some unduly negative comments about the non-payment of 13th month. The sacrifice made by the pilots, particularly the Captains, was an opportunity for them to show some leadership and save the company HK$200-300m.
These savings enabled a modest dividend payout in April to the shareholders of 5 cents per share, which cost $197m (about the same as the savings made by non payment of 13th month). The Captains in particular can be heartened that their 13th month went to many good causes in Beijing, Doha and London. So to all the pilots, a hearty Xiexie, shukraan and "cheers fellas".
