I've not been refused entry, because I don't carry a lounge pass nor have I ever relied on turning up on the day. Only ever pre-booked which I've never had an issue doing - I can book the Escape Lounge at T2 online for tomorrow and countless other days without a problem. I'd suspect the fact you can't book 10 months in advance is more an oversight since you can book T1 and T3 but then I can't imagine many people book that far ahead.
A couple of times I have tried to book into T2 Escape multiple times over a 10 month period, i.e. starting 10 months out (for a family holiday) up to the week and a couple of days before travel. The issue is arrivals in the 07:30~10:00 timeframe. Availability after that time is fine and sometimes before that time are ok. T2 is really constrained for lounge space and my understanding is that several of the airlines use the escape lounge for their premium passengers, e.g. TUI, VS, etc. They may be pre-booking/holding spaces during the morning peak.
