The main drawback I see with Chateauroux is it rather close to Tours, Poitier and Limoges all with connections to the UK. Lovely area but I would not call it particularly touriste (I have stopped there overnight on the drive up from Spain) but good luck for giving it a try. The airfield is used for storage and maintenance for a number of aircraft the last time I passed through.
