A friend of mine just joined “Rocksmart”; it’s a very basic ULC, in expansion, airline, that means NO additives: no ZED, no food, no perks. PF send to do the refueling during the walk around, too!
Take-home depends on your position, seniority and hours you fly; normal schedule is 6 days on, 4 days off; no floating base or Expat-oriented-commuting Rosters, so you WILL live in Santiago and, as requiered by law, only have 2 weeks vacations a year.
The good news: Santiago de Chile is a mix of living in Central to Northern Europe; climate is nice, not too hot and not too cold; it’s close to a lot of adventure year round. It’s fairly safe and very clean, environmentally oriented; corruption is the lowest in S. America and the schedules are not bad at all!
As the area of operation is very challenging, training is VERY good, emphasis is made on making good and safe decisions and maintaining basic stick and rudder skills!
Bad news: you can’t work in Chile if you don’t speak Spanish/castellano or are not from a Latin-American country that allowed you to reside in Chile . Also, you will have to pass ALL exams with the local authority and, to protect the market for the locals, there will never be a convalidation of a foreign license.
To sum it up, if you are after quick money, JetSmart Chile is not for you. If you are looking for a good place to settle and grow old, Chile is a great option and JetSmart is looking!
Hope that helps...
