In Australia the single biggest cause of hull loss of aircraft flown by holders of CPLs and ATPLs is fuel exhaustion or starvation.
If fuel exhaustion or starvation is the cause of the forced landing in this case, it’s a sad indictment of the busted system that the circumstances can’t be acknowledged as being what they are, with everyone learning (again) the importance of fuel system knowledge, fuel planning and airborne fuel management (and avoiding ‘get-home-itis’ and commercial pressures).
