If somebody driving a car with explosives into a terminal building is the issue, then simply erect bollards along the length of the building. The closure of the forecourts at UK airports is an over reaction to an event that happened many years ago.
DfT require a minimum distance of 30m (I think) from drop off to Terminal frontage. It’s as much about minimise the impact of a blast, as preventing a car being driven into a building.
In any event, each of the three terminals and their supporting road network is now operating above design capacity and so some action to reduce vehicle numbers is inevitable.
