I arrived at about 1115 on the Tuesday, feeling all pleased with myself by calling for fuel over the R/T on arrival (as briefed) and got my timiing
completely wrong, for, as Mikeb rightly says, matey was using the JetA1 bowser and I wanted Avgas for me little R22. The message apparently was not passed on, so I asked him direct. When an old man with one tooth arrived in the Avgas bowser, the jetA1 bowser broke down so he toddled off to get his spanners. On his return younger chap #1 didn't know how to operate the Avgas bowser...
The whole operation took an hour during which I
could have been drooling over the hardware at the show. On the plus side, I couldn't get upset as the two refuellers were such nice guys, but it should hardly have been a surprise to the organisers that, behold, lots of helicopters were flying in needing fuel, 'cos we all had arrival slots!!!
