I think the answer is more closely aligned to the Fire Cover / Crash Category that Waddington can provide compared to Brize Norton and the bigger civilian airfields.
Although (and I stress here, I don't know) there may also be an element of the fact that Airtanker own the aircraft and the currency training for pilots may be suitably covered by Sim training only - hence the relative lack of approach training compared to other fleets.
