Over the few years between the first introduction of the B787 and now there has been a shift in the market, at one time Norwegian was the only airline in Europe that was expanding and taking on crew. Now we have a situation that all airlines are expanding and some like Ryanair are having to curtail flying because they can’t recruit or retain enough crew.
For pilots it is the perfect storm, the shortage of pilots will increase remuneration and general conditions of employment. Getting back to Norwegian in Spain, the latest news is the company and unions are close to agreement on a new T & C ‘s package for the Spanish bases that is likely to be agreed by the pilots.
I have to agree with you about Airbus recruitment, to tempt pilots from all but a few of bottom feeders in Europe are offering better packages, however to get Airbus crew to jump ship to Norwegian in LGW an increase in pay would have to be in the order of 20% in pay with a better pension package and a conventional employment arrangement, they might get a few takers at the current rate but Norwegian would just find themselves supplying fully trained and experienced crews to the likes of easyJet in the long run.
