If you look at it closely you'll see that the mast is the lift point, the two risers from the skid toes appear to be there to maintain that nose high attitude. The UH-1Y has a 4 bladed rotor so you can't just strap the blade for and aft like a semi-rigid UH/AH-1.
And they did have a small control chute attached to the tail.
