Premier League matches are subject to being moved for TV/Sky and hardly ever get postponed, only in the most extreme cases. In most cases you'd need to buy the tickets in advance as the stadia are in the main quite small but if the club isn't doing so well availability is quite good. You hardly ever get to buy tickets at the gate any more.

The Northernmost clubs in the PL are:

Manchester City
Manchester United
Liverpool
Burnley
Everton
Huddersfield
Newcastle

I would look at their ticket availability first. Manchester City are top but still have tickets available for games. United are usually sold out due to so many tourists. Same as Liverpool. City, Everton and Newcastle are probably your best bet. As for local airfields I would just check SkyDemon.

If I were you I would factor in an evening stay after the game, then fly back the next day. But as it's the North who knows what the weather will let you do
