Several European airlines actually scheduled DC-10s into LHR daily, most commonly around 9 am. These were aircraft which had arrived at base early morning and could be given a fill-in trip to London and back at what then was the time of peak demand during the business day. They would be back at base by lunchtime.
Both KLM and Swissair scheduled these, and Iberia seemed a regular as well. They had previously done the same with DC-8s.
