I happened to be on the road on Wednesday, driving back from Colchester. Yes, there was snow, not settling, on the A12 up to around 12pm when I reached the M25, then nothing but rain. Maybe it was a bit heavier at Stanstead, 10 miles or so away, but I doubt anybody would class it as 'heavy snow'. As to the suggestion of transporting everybody to Heathrow, there was solid gridlock between the M40 and M4 junctions....
I am also a bit puzzled why Stanstead and Luton seemed to have so many problems in what after all is normal December weather.
