WEIRD.
If the clock plays up (especially on start) it's usually a sign that the bios battery on the motherboard is dying otherwise dead. Usually a CR2032 or 2035 watch battery which all good pound shops should sell. If the clock is out of sync with "Internet time" then accessing anything will probably not work.
The battery keeps the clock running when there's no power on, it should last 5 years or so at least, normally.
