SIA pilot fined for trespassing Changi Airport's transit area
SINGAPORE - Kelvin Kwan Zhia Tat was fined $600 today for trespassing Changi Airport's transit area last year while not on official duty.
On July 22, 2010, Mr Kwan had put on his Singapore Airlines pilot uniform and entered Terminal 2's transit area without a satisfactory excuse.
The 32-year-old also had his crew pass on him.
The Straits Times reported that he had intended to send his female friend off, who was leaving for Bangkok.
After entering the area, he changed into civilian attire.
When his friend had left, he went back to Terminal 2 Arrival North ICA and attempted to use his own passport to clear immigration.
However, his passport was rejected. He was then detained.
He could have been fined up to $1,000 for the offence.

We all know Singapore is a fine city, but why did this guy not exit the same transit area the same way he got in, i.e. in his uniform and with his crew pass ? And why the change of clothes ?
If he did this in the US of A, he would be in Guantanamo Bay by now.

Air crew members clearing immigration to enter Singapore need to produce a copy of the flight's General Declaration. So, since he did not have one, I suspect he thought he could get away by pretending to be a passenger and clearing immigration incognito.
He must have been aware of the conditions attached to the issue of his air side pass, i.e. purposes connected with his employment only. The airport police even send out reminders from time to time of what this means
As a local he would be aware of the strict application of the law in Singapore and deserves no sympathy.
The airport pass is a security document issued to a person in his or her official capacity to access the security restricted areas in Changi Airport to perform his or her work. Any airport pass holder caught misusing an airport pass shall be arrested and prosecuted. Such offenders shall be liable on conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of 2 years or to both. His or her eligibility for an airport pass in future will also be adversely affected.

Lee, what is your motivation in pasting some news article with the poor sod's name clearly stated? The young chap made a mistake, probably blinded by Cupid's arrow. He paid for this error, and will surely learn greatly from this and I hope the higher ups in SIA don't come down too hard on him. Kindly have empathy and the whole world will be a better place.

Well, like my old instructor used to say, pilots are like a pack vultures ready to pounce on any rotten meat. Sad to say, this young sod has just been bruised and a certain lee has already started to salivate. Don't be fooled by the name " lee ", it's certainly not a descendant of the Yellow Emperor. More like someone misappropriated a name to sound like a local.
