Yuvraj, I would highly recommend against even trying to become an ATP in India. I personally feel that the Indian aviation industry is, at the moment, is ailing. It's practically impossible to land up with a right seat job with any airline without influence and money. The majority of ATPs in India have got their jobs since they're rich and have a lot of influence.
Airlines in India say that their pilots are well trained and go through thorough currency evaluations periodically. Do you know the truth? The training is not up to the expected standards, money/influence gets em' past their examinations with ease and you have so-called 'well' trained 'authentic'/'genuine' wannabe jet-jockeys at the controls. They have the hours (hopefully) but do they really live up to the right standards?
You read in the newspapers about all these fake, drunk, misbehaving and rule-breaking pilots right? Tell me, what does this suggest about their background? Only a handful of such pilots make the news. Trust me mate, there are many more who very few will ever hear about.
I recently visited an exhibition of Indian universities and had a chance to personally speak to the head of a reputed aeronautics university of India. He told me that the aviation in industry is right now only suited for those who have serious grit, money and resources. So far he has had only a few students who made it to the airlines. The rest couldn't make it or saw the challenges and settled for other jobs. Even those who made it spent min. 55 to 60 lakh s INR. Their training may have been genuine but they had to shell out a lot of cash just so they could be assessed.
Think about it a lot Yuvraj. This industry is not forgiving at all and when it bites, it bites right down to the bone. It takes real grit and resources to make it to the right seat of an airliner in India. It's going to take many years for the flow to become a little less turbulent. I'm not yet in the industry because my time to gun it comes 5 to 6 years down the line. I'm not so optimistic about a career in flying in India right now. If it improves later on, then good. Otherwise, I'm hoping a foreign cadet program or some arrangement may be available when my time comes.
Don't be totally bogged down by these challenges. There are a lucky few who have really worked hard and made a place in the cockpit with some luck. You could well be one of them and if you have the motivation and spirit, you might even get picked for an advanced cadet program with a foreign airline.
Cheers.

you already got many advices
Hi Yuvraj
our brothers in this forum has already posted their advices. Its up to you to take the most important decision. Dont jump into conclusions just with CAE/Indigo as somebody pointed out in a previous post that You cannot rely on this industry. Changes can happen anytime. you will never know whether the association with Indigo/cae will last or not. Also with the last nails on Kingfisher's coffin is about to be hammered around 600-700 Pilots (Remember experienced pilots....) will be into the pool of unemployed pilots. Automatically they will move into the front liners for getting absorbed.
Sadly, The capacity Vs Demand Ratio is very poor in India (Even though people will not accept it) and this KFA crisis will add more holes in it. Result even half of them will remain in the pool decreasing the chances of freshers........
you cannot criticize airlines for all these issues for the simple reason. Every body wants the best manpower required for the company. Think in the shoes of a promoter who will definitely prefer a pool of well experienced pilots even if he has to pay more rather than absorbing freshers and spending huge money on training them.
But above all these the passion of flying is something that will never leave your mind if you are too much on it. Think many times brother before joining, because you are risking the hard earned money of your parents who has struggled many years to earn it..... Still if you have the will power & confidence and the heart to expect the worst then go for it......
All the Best

Dear Yuvraj
i just wanna aware you from Aviation field.i saw all conversation.and as per conversation all talking about CAE.do you know about CAE.they have more then 150 fresh students.do you think that they will give jobs to all. This is fullish thing i saw.no one is thinking about on this time aviation market is down already lots of pilots who completed type rating also they are jobless then how can CAE can give job to freshers.
that's truth they (CAE) provide job to his 1st batch of CAE coz they want to attract other students.
if you will go for job in airline they will ask you for CPL not for CAE CPL.remember this.
Pls find a good flying club of India not expansive flying club.

Hi,
I am a student with apft hyderabad and i must tell you that this flight school has promised big things right from the beginning and they never keep their word. So Please don't join this flight school. This school is super expensive and in return fake promises of a job. As of now nothing concrete has happened on job related promises. Hope you make a good decision and become a good pilot. Best of luck for your career. thank you!

I'm a parent with a 'I want to be a pilot' kid, so would love to know how this story turned out. IF you don't mind, that is.
