So working backwards, Boeing did not test it for certification, unless they deliberately introduced a battery with known design flaws and covered it up.

I'd say the test flights will be to prove a theory or demonstrate a reproducible error/issue.

Simply replacing a part and flying it to prove the issue doesn't re-occur won't be very convincing...

You do realise that Yuasa only makes the cells, the actually battery system is made by other companies and the Yuasa cells are the only part of that system, so far, shown to be functioning correctly...

The APU is required for the ETOPS certification, which by definition has to be very reliable and therefore needs a very reliable battery.
