"Why do you call them that?", he once asked.

Whereas when I was about 15 or 16, we had several Sten guns in the school CCF...

Back in the late 1970s when such things were still legal for properly licensed UK citizens (yes, really....), a mate with whom 3 of us shared a house was licensed to import a single handgun at a time...
