R44 Crash Chile

This happened a few days ago, and thought there might be some discussion on it. Aircraft clips flag/pole on departure and comes down hard.

Good classroom example of how rotor airflow dynamics can endanger a departure. Flag gets pulled into the rotor disk. Similar to branches getting pulled down into the rotor when you hover underneath them. He didn't have much margin in that spot and the first little curve ball struck him out. Why regulators can count on a steady paycheck.

The roll rate on that R44 would give an F-16 a run for its money, lucky he landed upright...

hmmm. You sure he didn't clip the pole? You can see a piece of debris departing shortly after it goes wrong.
