Here's a link to the article - can't seem to embed the video, of footage of the Blackhawk down incident in Somalia.

The original thread is closed so started a new one...

A lot of very brave men were wounded and killed that day.....and fought their way out of the very center of armed resistance by an overwhelmingly superior number of armed opponents.

We all need to Tip our Hats to these guys as they certainly deserve it.

Indeed, these poor chaps went through hell.

Was the video removed from the article?

No, I've just watched it. Read the book and seen the film. I suspect neither gives a really true feel as to what went on that day. An outstanding effort.

It is amazing how the crash footage in the "Blackhawk Down" film appears to very closely resemble the actual mission footage of the crash of Super 61. Maybe the film-makers had access to this footage back in 2000.

The two H500/Little Birds landing on the street is pretty scary too. Brown-out with your blades ten feet from a building will get your attention, I'd imagine! All in a days work for these guys, though.

Sadly, it also looks like Somalia hasn't made any real progress for its citizens in the intervening twenty years.
