Helicopter down in Scotland: December 2005
Condolences to the families and friends....unfortunately this is something that all of us are faced with when we go flying. Knowing that does not make the loss any lighter, particularly at this time of the year. Prayers go out those grieving at this time.
IMHO I believe more good than harm can come from speculating as to the cause of an accident. Talking through potential scenarios, lethal or otherwise will spread knowledge and experience.
What else can we do when we hear of an accident except offer our 'cyber' condolences until the AAIB report is published and say 'oh right, that was it then. .'
Anyway, isn't it up to the moderators to say what goes on these forums. . .?

Hi All,
Firstly let me add my condolences to both the families involved. A terrible time of the year for anything like this to happen.
I can sympathise and empathise with the families. I lost my father in January 1973 in a BEA viscount crash also in Perthshire.
I post this because I am totally disgusted with some TV reporting.
Can someone please tell me why a bloody penguin has priority over such a terrible event in Scotland?

Sincere condonlences to the family and friends of the pilots.
I'm writting from Florida but my family are from the area where the helicopter came down. So bearing in mind this is 3rd hand information, I was told by a relative, that a passing motorist saw the helicopter "break up" before coming down on a farm near meigle. I have not seen any of the news coverage and don't know if this was already reported.

Two men who died when a helicopter crashed into a field have been named by police.
Robert Philip Ward, 48, of Great Western Road in Glasgow and Edward Lapsley, 56, of Roland's Gill, Tyne and Wear, died when the aircraft crashed in farmland near Meigle in Perthshire.
Investigations have continued into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, with recovery of the wreckage also getting under way.
The men were the aircraft's only occupants when it fell to ground east of the A94 Coupar Angus to Meigle road at about 10.15am on Wednesday.
The helicopter was travelling from Cumbernauld to the Aberdeen area when it came down.
No one else was injured as a result of the accident.
Tayside Police held a briefing with officials from the Air Accident Investigation Branch from Farnborough.
A force spokesman said: "Methodical examination continued at the scene during the day, with officers combing the field section by section, and the recovery of the wreckage of the Bell 206 helicopter began."
Robert Philip Ward was known by friends and colleagues as Phil Ward.
Our sympathies to their loved ones at this sad time.

From someone who has flown with phil on a number of occasions and meeting up with eddie i would like to say it was a pleasure working with you phillip and eddie the best people you could wish to meet.....will miss you both, RIP and god bless (from someone who`s had a drink to drown my sorrows)

I knew Phil many years ago and will miss him deeply.
We lost touch several years ago and I am now in Canada. If anyone on here knows what the funeral arrangements are, I would be most grateful if they could let me know.

Had known Phil and Eddie for nearly 2 years and was shocked when I heard what had happened.
Spoke to Phil early on Wednesday morning shortly before they were due to lift from Cumbernauld and was expecting them both for coffee(and our regular grumble about the world of aviation and computers!) at lunchtime so was very sad to hear the news.
RIP guys, you were a terrific pair and will be sorely missed by all at CHP.

Two excellent guys, known them for a few years, will be greatly missed. Always garrenteed a laugh whilst fueling their JetBangers with Eddie around, always moaing about his laptop!

A sad occurence when nothing the pilot does can help. I have a question though. Does anyone know of this happening to any other B206 anywhere in the world before?

thanx, it would seem initially that it is a `one off`in the uk,the only other one being in mexico in 1991 i hope for the sake of all that is the only one full stop. such a shame, still cant get over it, lets see what the full report brings in time
