How long to get back in the saddle?

So it's been around 7 years since I flew (fixed wing) and I may be in a position to get back to it next year. Have any of you taken up the reins again after such a long period and how long did it take you to get back into the swing of things? I'd imagine instrument work would take the longest.

I have a similar issue, it's been 15 years for me. I have concerns about the regulations and procedures. The regulations are all online and I find the structure of the pages hard to follow. What's the best way to approach this?

12 years since last flight, thought it would take a lot of work. Turns out it was like riding a bike - I passed the PPL skills test after 3.9 hours.
