Adding this report from elsewhere in the forum:

In the meantime, can I have a quick whinge about something I've noticed since I started accessing PPRuNe on an Android phone.

In the "User CP" view, each page title is immediately below the "unsubscribe from this forum" line/button for the page above. I lose track of the occasions I've inadvertently unsubscribed from a page and need to go back into forums view, find the page, and re-subscribe.

Could the unsubscribe script please either be moved over to the right where it won't get accidentally pressed, or an intermediate "are you sure: yes/no" window used to stop this happening?

If I'm doing it, presumably so are many others.
If anyone else has complaints or comments about this issue, do chime in.

Any chance of a way to save your user name and password on the Android app?

Or am I just being stupid by not seeing how to do that?

I don't have an Android phone; otherwise, I'd just test that myself. I've forwarded your question to the tech team. In the meantime, if any other Android user wants to weigh in, feel free to do so.

Any progress on Tapatalk. A plugin needs to be installed on the forum software and if I am not mistaken there is no cost to the forum.

Tapatalk is a forum app on the iPhone, Android, webOS, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry. Tapatalk Forum App provides super fast on-the-go forum access to majority of the discussion forums that has activated the Tapatalk plugin.

iPhone4S Connection Problem

Having taken the plunge into the world of smartphones with the purchase of an iPhone4S last month, I was delighted to discover the PPRuNe app. However, at random times it comes up with the message "There appears to be a connection issue between your device and PPRuNe App. Please try again" The 'rotating bicycle wheel' symbol is active in the bottom right corner of the screen (but not always in the top status bar). Other apps such as Tapatalk and ForumRFree work fine. I have deleted and reinstalled the PPRuNe app, to no avail. Anyone have a similar problem? Solution?

Well, PPRuNe occasionally has database difficulties, so the site just might be ailing while you are trying to access the site. Why don't you give this some time, say, a few weeks, to see if you consistently get this error message?

Also, if any other iOS users are seeing this issue, please report it here. Thanks!

- button 'last unread post' not working ever
What happens when you click it? Does nothing happen, or do you get an error message? If so, what is the error message?

- Newest list doesn't refresh?
Same questions - what's the resulting behavior when you try?

Quote:
- No landscape support
Just to clarify - do you mean that the site doesn't turn sideways if you turn the phone sideways?

Quote:
- No emails on subscribed topics?
Just to clarify - do you mean that when you subscribe to topics while on the app, that those topics don't yield email notifications? Do email notifications work with topics which you subscribe to using the regular forum?

Tapatalk support would be great. It would offer users a choice.
We just signed a business deal with Tapatalk rival Forum Runner, so integration with Forum Runner should be forthcoming.

Ref my post #50, I have been monitoring things:-
  • When the app is reporting connection problems, I can switch to Safari and connect immediately.
  • Under the same condition, accessing the forum via my PC or laptop, all using the same wi-fi router as the iPhone4S, I get an immediate connection to the forum.

As per Radix's comment on the 'last post unread' icon, touching this gives a brief show of the little rotating spoked wheel but nothing else happens.

Is there a planned date for the intro of Forum Runner? I am subscribed to a photography forum that uses this app and it works fine on my iPhone4S. A shame that the PPRuNe one appears not to!

Thanks, Lyneham Lad, for the helpful commentary.

Since the deal with Forum Runner just happened (last week, maybe?), that relationship is just starting, so I don't have any dates yet regarding integration. If/when I get details, I'll share them.

Very good, Lyneham Lad and Radix. Thanks for all the helpful details. I've reported all the issues to the tech team, who will take a look alongside the mobile app development team.

Alright, our tech team has implemented some fixes regarding the above reported iOS mobile app issues.

Are people still experiencing these issues? If so, which ones? Any details are good. Thanks!

The iPad app is actually an iPhone app according to Apple. The significance is in the viewing experience.

On the ipad the PPRuNe app appears as a small mobile phone in the centre of the screen. You can double the size by clicking on '2x' but then you lose the resolution making it unpleasant to use.

Using PPRuNe on safari (the Apple web browser) is far, far better. I see the full screen and have all the normal functionality.
