Hamburg airport to Kiel

Has anyone information on transferring from HAM to Kiel?

I have looked up on line and there seems to be a bus service or train directly from airport.

Not sure which will be best for us dragging suitcases so any info much appreciated.

I've done this journey in reverse, but it was about 5 years ago and quite early morning. I used the Train from Kiel Hbf to Hamburg Hbf and then the Hamburg U-Bahn to the airport. It took around 1:45 hours if I remember correctly.

The train will involve a change which in Hamburg Hbf I think would mean coming from the underground and to the main level using steps. Could have changed a bit now though as I've not been to Hamburg since then.

If there is a bus directly from the airport to Kiel then that'd probably be the better option if carrying your luggage is a big problem.

There is "S-Bahn" from the airport to main station directly these days. Traveltime: ~25minutes.
Usually arrives on platform 1 (within main station).

A regional train to Kiel from there takes about 1h15, quick glance is that they usually leave on platform 6 - so only a few steps/escalator rides.

Have arrived in Kiel. For the interest of anyone needing to get from HAM to Kiel for cruise embarkation the KIELIUS bus is the best option. Leaves every hour from outside arrivals hall. Costs 20€ one way.

Comfortable roomy coach stops once prior to Kiel and arrives at main Station in Kiel which is located in the middle of City and close to Ferry\cruise ports.

Just short of 2 hours journey time.
