Stowaway survives FL380 5+ Hours in wheel well

Something doesn't add up. A 16 year old survives in the wheel well of a 767 flying from San Jose California to Maui !! 38,000 feet and the low Temp ? But then miracles do happen...

I'm betting they find he stowed away in the pressurized (and heated) cargo compartment.

From BBC News - How often do plane stowaways fall from the sky? the numbers are 24 alive from 96 attempts.

I found this old (but "official") paper: http://www.faa.gov/data_research/res...ia/am96-25.pdf
Seems some young men very resilient...
Perhaps it have been actualized?

kind of scary that he was able to get access to the plane, regardless of where he stowed away at. If he was a terrorist, he could have at a minimum damaged the landing gear, if not more. Amazing that he survived, we'll have to see if investigations turn up anything additional.

Another example of what a waste of time, and above all, money security is!

If he was unconscious and hypothermic, his body oxygen demand might have been low enough - they do now try lowering the body temperature of heart attack patients to reduce the risk of brain damage. Probably the difference compared to some is that he obviously woke up before the gear coming down dumped him out on finals. And he was lucky enough not to get squished by the retracting gear, which I understand is what gets some stowaways.

I saw this reported on BBC TV World News and the item had the originating airport (San Jose) spokesman saying how concerned they were for the boys' well being ... but nothing about their breach in security - of course!

The item concluded by saying that the authorities had not yet decided whether to prosecute the stoway. But did not mention about prosecuting SJC - of course!
