Just wanting to hear from anyone that has lost their class 1 and how difficult it is/was to regain.

What is the process if you do lose it do you need to go through an initial again and does CASA want paperwork from you for the duration of your flying career?

Feeling lost and confused so anyone that has been or going through this would like to hear from.

I lost my Class one last year. Had a unfortunate bout of Cancer which needed surgery and 2 rounds of Chemo. I will say I was very surprised at how well CASA treated me. I was very upfront from the start and my DAME could not have been better. After getting the all clear from my oncologist. I provided my DAME with all the reports I could muster and was signed off by him to return flying. When my Renewal came around, I once again had every scrap of information and reports I could find and submitted them with my renewal. Took a nervous month to come through and I'am now under CASA audit process for every medical but It's worth it to be back in the air again.

My experience as a DAME is that they are very reasonable about these kinds of cases, but also look for an evidence base for the decision. Obvious tougher cases such as single pilot commercial IFR, military flying and so on would be harder nuts to crack.
