PA28 Nosewheel collapse at YSBK?

Indeed,
I was driving towards BK listening to the tower with my scanner going on about how Rwy 11L is N/A, when I was overtaken by a couple fire trucks. So I followed (as one does to get through Sydney's congestive traffic) to find a PA-28 sitting on its nose. Apparently this a/c was from Illawarra flying school?
Not sure how the accident happened.
I always forget the camera when something crazy happens.

damn mongrels that follow emergency vehicles...just the other day say about 5 cars hot on the tail of an ambulance, and they were all performance vehicles.
audi TT, HSV gto, ss ute and some beemer.
it really aggravates me when you move over to let them past and then some @rseho1e pulls out behind them.....
oh well

yeah, but the last laugh is that the audi TT is *actually* more a skoda than VW/Audi, they're made in Hungary/Czech and have the same body chassis as the Skoda Octavia.

I must say, i've never seen nor heard of anyone following an emergency vehicle like that. But then again, I haven't been to Sydney much. Another reason why I don't like the place. Sydney seems to be more like a US state than an Australian one. Arrogance in abundance.

Capt Jack sir... I think you hit the nail on the head! Made the joke heaps of times, but never put 2 and 2 together... duh..
Ive had folks tail gate, block us (and yes the patient we were going to nearly died as a result.) The person driving the obstructing vehicle was charged.... her excuse... "I thought they were just going to dinner and they shouldnt be driving that fast..."
Wonder if it were her kid we were going to, would she have to same opinion.
There is an effect called wake effect, potentially behind every emergency vehicle on a lights a sirens run. Same as wake turbulance from an airframe. Everything is tossed out of order to mix the smart alecs with the stupid and the innocent alike. Occasionally there will be a prang as a result. But you ask any of these idiots... are you good enough to react appropriately if someone chucks a panic in front and we have to stop suddenly.. they never stop saying yes they are until picked out of the back of a truck...

I'm a bit late in reading this but I was standing in front of Illawarra watching the Police and Firies arrive. It was not a Illawarra aircraft. I don't know who's it was.

yeah i was backseating that day we were on short finals on runway centre next to the pa28 looked like it was just a "bad" landing
low to the ground it took a sharp left hand turn followed by a very sharp right hand turn going into the ground nose first

Northern Chique ... so how long must one wait before changing into an EMPTY lane behind an emergency vehicle ? Does one need the two minutes behind a fire engine, and 1 minute behind and ambo or police car ? GET REAL WOMAN!
Besides, at least if you WERE to have an accident with and ambo ... at least the paramedics would already be there, so there would be minimal dealy, and more chance of survival me thinks.
What is "FINALS" ... I know of FINAL, but not finals... are you a journalist ?

Mr Wiggum sir.... I obviously caused a wry taste with my post... please allow me to explain...
There are emergency vehicles that exceed speed limits on roads... there are idiots who choose to follow those emergency vehicles at speed and well in excess of posted speed limits. Most of these idiots are so close up our tailgates we cannot see them in the mirrors at all. Ive had one pretty close up my tail and decided when we pulled intot he left lane for a police sedan to pass, going to the same motor vehicle prang we were, he decided to follow the police car at speed.
He was subsequently charged.
The other downside is that if we are involved in a prang, that takes out our truck, the crew, plus another crew that has to then respond to the job we were initially going to (which may be too late for that patient) and a replacement crew for us.
Also true is the fact that paramedics are going to be on scene. Sure, but what kinda shape are we gonna be in? If there was a patient in the back with an unbelted paramedic trying to perform their duty in keeping that person alive, the risk of a multiple fatilty in a rear end collision with an ambulance is very high. Most of the time, while trying to resus kids, the stretcher is too big and the restraints are minimal, due to the need to access the patient. Two paramedics are often in the back unrestrained in a case like this. Both at extreme risk in the event of a collision.
I take it your reply was tongue in cheek, and falling in behind the vehicle is just fine by me, but speed limits were set, we take risks and responsibilities with the extra privilages we get. If we pick up an idiot tailgater, normally I slow down. That takes the whole point out of getting to a job quickly.
Once again Ive digressed...
I do rather feel sorry for the pilot of the aircraft.... theres a day or two where I wondered what Id done to deserve walking away with little but bent pride over a bad landing.
