There is a bit of a debate whether they will be allowed to get it running on the flypast forums.... hopefully they will as it still retains its engines.

As I understand it, the terms of the ITAR and purchase agreement preclude 'actually' running it, but possibly don't preclude getting it into a runnable condition. As you noted, one of the biggest, if not the biggest hurdles is serviceable Speys, I imagine the installed pair are probably well beyond saving having had no anti-det runs and periodic outside storage thrown in for good measure. Whether the Duxford or Hendon Speys are an option is highly debatable too and of course the first item on the agenda is to actually get 582 dismantled and moved to Bruntingthorpe!

ITAR regulations for the Phantom are quite specific, no power of any type on the airframe, even electrical power for lighting.

In that case then, we can only hope the ITAR regs are relaxed a little in the future...

Not going to happen, period. The only 'Civilian' registered flying Phantom in the world required an act of Congress to bypass the US ITAR regulations for that particular organisation to allow it to be operated.

You going Nutty? Plan to be there myself. MJ is right about the ITAR regulations, they are very specific on what one can do with the items they refer to. Static display means exactly that. I'm involved with a museum that has just been loaned from the USAFM, A10 ser no 80-0219 that was at Alconbury. ITAR applies to it (even though it technically is still owned by the US government). We also have an F4 frame we have acquired from Everett Aero. It was sold to us with exactly the same ITAR provisions as every other F4 sold by the MoD. Static display only. Break that and get caught doing it will see you likely losing your purchase. Getting 582 down from Scotland is not going to be cheap either. It would likely cost the price GJD paid for her to move her. The wing has to come off, period. At 28 feet with the outers off, she will not get permission for a road move in that state. I have heard little on what has happened since Gary saved the day, but no doubts it will be a topic of conversation with people we know on Sunday.

Hopefully yes :) will drag the old box brownie along and take a few snaps too, weather permitting. It will make a change from taking pictures of birds..

Not quite the same thing (they'd be on the military register, for starters) but I read somewhere that HHA may be considering getting some Phantoms...

HHA already have a ground instructional F-4F (I forget the serial) at Scampton, they're also getting one flyer, 38+48, which is already on the British military register as ZK848. As I understand it, ZK848 will be based at Manching and flown by an EADS pilot, it will be operated out of Scampton as and when needed.

Thank you to everyone involved in what must have been a lot of hard unpaid work to put on such an enjoyable day for everybody. It was like airshows used to be before all the commercialism and BS kicked in.
And I know it wasn't strictly an airshow per se,but it was wonderful to be so close to our wonderful heritage jets,breathe in the warm Avtur and have your innards well and truly rattled!
I never cease to be amazed at how tiny the Gnat is,and in comparison how big the Buccs and Lightnings are. I thought the BBMF Spitfire was particularly spirited and seemed a lot faster than the many previous BBMF singleton displays I have seen.
Well done ladies and gentlemen I shall look forward to the next one.
P.S. What happened to the Nimrod's rudder?!?

It was good wasn't it, I will pop a few pics up later.

Incidentally, they were caught by surprise as they do not normally get the amount of folks they did, so the crowd line was a bit squashed, but they were saying they may try to extend it, they cannot at the moment make it longer as they have to allow for a tyre burst and an aircraft slewing off the runway.

They could have done with more staff on the crowd line to stop the incursions past the barrier and up behind the jets launching off, I couldn't believe the stupidity of some people taking young children up behind high powered jets, I am just glad no one got injured and I would hate to think what might of happened if an engine let go. At least later on some of the staff tried to address the problem.

But bar that, an excellent day out, well organised and run, a credit to a lot of hard work that goes into behind the scenes to generate the aircraft and to staff the show.

I agree, they should probably close off the tow-in / marshalling area,but I am reluctant to criticise them as I'm sure they do the utmost with what they've got and rely on fair play and common sense from Joe Public to behave sensibly and respectfully (naive I know) , sadly the nutters will be the first to scream if anything happens to them as a result of their own stupidity.
Possibly more alarming was the amount of people walking around in fully-badged flying suits who had no involvement with any of the aircraft present or probably any aircraft anywhere? !? There should be a law against it ! :)

Packed out.. Not surprising with the own goal the IWM did today.. Nutty, I missed you, but I saw everyone else I was hoping to see (and some idiots I was not hoping to see as well, but I digress). Bob Tuxfords books seemed to be doing well. His plug on the prize draw was worth it. Piggy's driving was up to his usual high standard too.:ok:

Networking for my projects and others was progressed too. Buccs were awesome.

Exmanman, you have a fair point indeed. Always a problem one can see, but if the frames on the static/runner line are not available to the public, the whole essence of the day is defeated a bit. If you have aircraft being towed, the teams must pre brief on what , how , when to deal with joe public if moving a frame. I was one of those on the entry point, not as bad as some others (thom manners had left them), but I can see what yo mean, 50 metre tape across it would not be hard.

What was Duxford problem, other than having to book in advance?
