israel's "Iron Dome" as an area ICBM defence against N. Korea?

I know little about the Iron Dome system that Israel has developed to protect its citizens from an attack other than what was shown on TV of it swatting scuds and Hezbolla's rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

Does it offer an effective defence against an attack coming from space in the form of an ICBM in terms of speed of engagement. Area covered anor is it more suited to countering the attack profile of a cruise missile which is of course a lot lowerand slower.
If so, there could be rush of sales to several new customers....MB

No.

Arrow III, THAAD & the SM-3/6 systems offer the kind of BMD ability you're looking for. Against a fully fledged ICBM threat? Probably not so much - but quite possibly more credible against the Nork's initial 'ICBM'. Expect blunt and 'slow' RV capability only as of now, and certainly no MIRV / MaRV capability.

For genuine ability against a modern ICBM threat, you'd really need something like the Russian A-135 system.

MB, were you thinking of Israeli defence from NK, or the utility of Iron Dome system for other at risk States?

Iron Dome is overplayed, even against ancient stuff used by jihaddists. No doubt it is useless against ICBM.

JG54 put is correctly about SM-3 (you need to wait for Block IIB though to deal with ICBM) and THAAD (short range BM).

GBI network should be mentioned in the first instance, IMHO.

My angle was whether countries such as South Korea, Japan and other western leaning states in range and therefore feeling sufficiently threatened by the implicit threat of Kim Jong-un & procure an anti ICBM shield for their own defence. I was looking at a non Russian source of supply and was unsure of Iron Dome's capability in this application though it looks impressive against rockets ansscuds when defending a relatively small geographical area (Israel) rather than providing regional defence for more than one country.

Japan already deploys SM-3 on the Kongo and Atago class destroyers, whilst also looking to procure either THAAD or a land based derivative of SM-3 ('Aegis Ashore') for the home islands.

South Korea currently has a US Army THAAD battalion in theatre.

Iron dome is not designed for ballistic missiles you need to be looking at Arrow 2 and 3

MB, thank you. Then of course you need to consider threat and it is doubtful that the fat win has enough weapons to threaten every country in range. There are probably a few that are not hostile to him.

Obviously, and for historic reasons, Japan will be near the top of the target list. The other of course is the USA.

Countries such as France and UK should we well down any hit list for two reasons - a limited number of systems and a greater risk of counter attack from the US.
