Gatehouse rocks!

The rock festival..."The Plastics are having a party!!"

A completely unplanned event. D*z, myself and a few others in the Sally one night, bored, drunk...."what shall we do" - D*z pipes up (assume a Liam Gallagher type accent) "I've got some f**k-off new speakers - let's go back & have a party" - and hence it became history!

Went back to GH, collecting people & alcohol on the way, seem to remember we swung by the mess for a refreshment and hit the "botch van" for a burger too.

Much loud music, drunken antics (myself & Mark P**d riding a bicycle over a jump whilst playing guitar) later the RAFP turned up and everyone scarpered.

Not sure who got caught and who owned up but we were all on parade the next morning (I think it was Colin R****s that took the parade) and every morning for the next week. Typical bull - have to turn up wearing No 2 shoes, holding No 1 shoes (Karl's feet were about 3 sizes bigger than mine but I got away with it.)

Some names I remember being intimately involved:

Garry C
The Beast of Gatehouse (naturally...)
Andy H
Taff
Nige S
Mark P

And a whole lot more my alcohol-addled brain has forgotten.

Good times.......

I remember Poison P setting off a fire alarm at about 0500 on a Sunday morning and watching in awe as more nurses than baby navs left the mess annex!

Gatehouse was awesome...I was at the rock festival; hid under a car with Rich "I'd rather be an enginner B...d." Got clean away with it but we still turned up to the parades. I was a local at the Sidings mostly, along with all the other pubs locally. Used to buy 5 pints and get more money back than I handed over... a certain bar maid called dirty D..n!! She also liked black issue ties....if you know what I mean!? Anyone remember the Gatehouse Grand Prix? I wrote off a perfectly good Lancia Fulvia during that little episode. I have no idea how I, or many others, got through the course! Many other memories....or not!!

.. reminds me of a visit to the WRAC Depot at Guildford.

A "bomb scare" saw more squaddies than girls leaving their blocks.....

...... fortunately Fg Off Teeters was in the Orderly Officer's room at the time....

I have very few memories of Gatehouse therefore I must have enjoyed it immensely.

Our house was just opposite the rugby club but it was an extremely painful trip back if you forgot that there was a three foot fence between the two, still got the scar.

I do just about remember that an Eng of my acquaintance and I once signed in the keys for the mess 4 minutes before they were signed out for breakfast; hence not remembering much else.

Think I just missed the Rock festival........

....remember being on ITC when M*k* O*F**d and mates burst in with some 'ladies' andsuggested they got into our beds........then left a set off the fire alarms.......they got shot a dawn for that one.......Trevascock ordering a Friday 2100 inspection and slipping in the style of 'LoonyToons' on the ultra-bulled floor...how we laughed........flying with the Group Captain - crewing in at 0600 and waking up in the rugby club floor at about 0400...not my finest hour!!

Post nurse night dawn rushes to 'get them to Sheffield and back before period one!!'

Bikes in trees, and on roofs and bog roll bunting...

Drug-sniffing dogs in, dodgy welsh bloke out......to the funeral march played in the house opposite by another welsh wag!

Mama's Pizza, heated in a toaster on it's side, for breakfast and finishing your slice and electric shave before the white gate.........

Brown-bombing out of the bedroom window, targeting some poor sods sat below!! (Sorry..I was young)

Homebrew and exploding beer cans on the BBQ fuelled by Her Majesty's furniture (lifex of course)

Run-swims..or even better the run-bus-swims......

Ditch runs and Trevascock nearly dying.....and he was on a bike!!

Mandy and Blockhead - got my fair share of both...

Jake McQueen...God Bless him....'take it from me, Aircrew to be....swing those F**kin arms and dig in those F**kin heels'

Nearly killing the flight as course leader when marching across the road to the mess for lunch.........articulated lorry was going much too fast anyway, thank got he had quick reactions and better eyesight!!!

No 2 mess nurses night....awesome

Oh Happy, Happy days

I don't remember M*k* O*F**d being with us on that night but he was the Eng referred to in the post above.

Just had a look at Google Earth and they've flattened the No2 Mess, Gatehouse and the rugby club while the bloody ITC block and the f'ing gym are still there.

Ah, Finningley, a great place .............before it was turned into a kindergarten and the play pen for instant sergeants! When we had real aeroplanes and a war role.

The brown bomb as I remember did not clear the "frame" totally, I see no mention of your time as a photographic model.

Dave and his not so white sheets, twas like a scene from the vikings, he did go on to get the RAF cross .

The eng's car vs the lampost.

The fine ladies of the WRAF and Donnie .

Beags, Hughie was much much more than that.

I rated Jake's mangey old mutt higher.

Battle of Britain Ball '88, No.2 Sgts Mess

I remember that the guy in the house next door to me (a large Glaswegian) went dressed as Little Bo Peep (it was a '40s theme ) and scared my girlfriend witless, and that on the Sunday morning there seemed to be an awful lot of nurses waiting at the Bus stop.....

Salmonella Sam, Pie 'n' Peas at the Gate

I 'fell over in the drying room, sir' after buying a tray of Pie'n' mushy peas from Sam on the gate, and then leaving a green trail across the newly polished AAITC block floor to my bed.....

Did anyone else drink 'Tizer' in the mess? (double Barcardi, double Vodka, dash of blackcurrent, topped up with Lemonade.

Also on a Friday, making sure that you bought pints 5 & 6 before the end of Neighbours/Twofers

Just to add: Free entry into Seventh Heaven on a Thursday night, and always going to Main Street on a Sunday night...

What was the Converted Church in Donnie called?

In the early nineties it was called Camelots Wessex, complete with a bank of Tvs one of which was linked to a camera focused on the ladies toilet door. Made checking out the talent a far more gentlemanly, and lazy, experience......

Great fun, but on a sad note, shared a house with Gareth Nicholas (AEO on the Nimrod that went down). Hope he has forgiven us for rebuilding his bedroom in the garden several times. RIP Gareth.

Seem to remember having to get up early one morning to recover the remains of a car from a ditch somewhere between Donny and the gate.

Only house I have ever had with a Vulcan literally in the back garden.

You must have been short changed in No2 Mess with lemonade in your 'Tizer'. Always went for the sparkling white wine as a lemonade replacement myself...

Well I think I did, but I cant really be sure

Do remember one fine evening at Lewey's Stag Do, and the quality ( ) entertainment that the 'feds' put paid to, as despite having the curtains drawn, she was perfectly silhouetted by the backlighting.

Oh, happy days...

Happy days !!!!
Memories:
Jake McQueen = God. Remember seeing him as the SWO at Leeming (?) and he had not changed; how many young wannabes got priceless words of encouragement (and bo//ockings !) from him ?
Having your own vulcan in the back garden of 13 Almond, I still have the general's ( God bless you Mick ) picture of it covered in snow somewhere.
Su//y putting the first 20s of Frankie,s "two tribes" on his mega (for 1988) sound system, post grad dining in and Park Lane recce. Cue lots of A/Sgts (and nurses) running around in DPM and the cozzers turning up shortly after.
Said snowdrops were actually very good about the whole thing (the first time anyway...)
Some great role model DS, and some total to§§ers - why is it you only realise just how much after the event ?
Got the block more than once, what would happen today if the DS offered that to somebody ????

Seem to remember that mandy was a teddy bear ????

Mandy was a medicine ball - at least it was when I carried it round.

I remember the two tribes incident.

Wessex - Tizer, if mixed correctly, should resemble methelated spirits but get you drunk quicker. I recall the night that the No2 mess ran out of lemonade and the tizers were made with just bacardi, vodka and blackcurrant. I also remember spending the next day in the HF shack listening to morse - ow.

I also have absolutely no memory of the '88 BoB Ball so I must have had a great time.
