I am surprised he would jump from EK to that other airline. I thought there was a no poaching clause with pilots between the two airlines. I would think the same would apply to executives. Any rumors of a merger?

One hopes that this is merger related if true.

If merger were to happen, the combined entity would operate out of the emirate of Dubai, the most valuable brand name would be "Emirates". This would be a lot to ask of the rulers down the road.

The only possible face saving solution is to have the CEO of "No name" airline" become the CEO of the combined entities.

The cultural rot that has gripped EK, and surely observed by CM, would be replaced by the "other" culture. House cleaning at mid mgt level would be pretty deep on this side presumably- easier done initially from AUH.

If above was to happen - guardedly positive.

If there is no merger and he goes - that's quite concerning for EK - as Sir Stubborn won't change.

Could be run like Air France-KLM, or BA-Iberia...2 separate brands.

No-poaching

There is no restriction on EK pilots moving to AUH. Several pilots, mostly ex-cadets, have done this. The arrangement only applies to pilots coming to EK where 12 months applies.

It appears that Christoph Mueller has officially started his exit plan. Friends at headquarters said the department heads were sent an email this afternoon with the following:

"We regretfully announce the resignation of Christoph Mueller, our Chief Digital & Innovation Officer, who will return to Europe in August 2019.

Since Christoph joined us in September 2016 he has been a valuable member of our team and contributed his vast experience to our success. We wish to thank Christoph for his leadership, commitment and support in helping to drive and build capability and expertise in key areas.

We will work with Christoph in the coming months on a smooth transition of his portfolio and will keep you updated.

We wish Christoph well and good luck in his future endeavours."

Signed by Tim Clark and Gary Chapman. So ladies and gentlemen, who's next on the list of successors? Rumor is also that a few others are leaving including head of the US. Sounds like things are heating up early this year!

If it is true, then he didn't last very long.

And didn't transform any of the rot or innovate anything except his bank book.

Or perhaps CM had good intentions but his ability to act was hampered by others?

Regardless of his reasons for leaving, his eventual departure sees one of the more incisive and intelligent individuals depart a management position, which not something to be joyful about.
