Re upgrade: not for long...privatization is in 7 months, after that upgrade is by seniority regardless of nationality, just like WAN and JZR.

in an ideal world that is how it should be..

BUT....let's look at the current situation,

Conditions will change, no private enterprise will accept the ballast accumulated after years of hemorrhaging money, they can't even pay the salaries, have a look at the press last week. Saving will be in the agenda.

The most probable private company to come into play will be WAN, if they merge, some airplanes will be shed....look at WAN's passenger loads, 50% at best! their only reason for being there is to wed KAC when privatization comes...

Kuwait Airport has no more capacity so forget about adding more aircraft to the fleet until the much needed expansion of the airport has started.

Between WAN and KAC they have enough crews, if they need a few more, DEC and fresh FO's will be hired. Remember, they will already have new local Captains, this last effort in recruitment is to promote all the locals ready, before the new era of KAC, a leaner and more dynamic operator.

Ask any experienced FO's in JZR and WAN, how long have they been waiting for that command, how slow the training machine in Kuwait is and how much cheaper is to get a few DEC at short notice.

It is a good debate and something is about to happen in Kuwait, it could be 7 months as you said , or 2 o 3 years as it usually is. if you have time to spare, do join, but be warned, many have been disappointed in this land, too many things are needed for the new KAC, a Dynamic dgca, a bigger airport, new ATC, a faster training program, etc.

Boring place

Yeah,it will not be so boring when more "I want this,I want that" type of "cheap charlies" will come with false logbooks from the european low-cost area.

Regardless, KAC is still looking to hire 16 expats.

If you are looking for an upgrade, don't expect any for at least 5 years.

90 Kuwait Airways Corporation pilots seek ‘transfer’ (Arab Times)

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: Ninety Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) pilots have allegedly requested their transfer to Municipality institutions as they have no intention to continue working at the corporation after the privatization process, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed the financial situation at the corporation is getting worse, attributing the problem to the financial and administrative violations purportedly committed by high-ranking officials. Sources called for the quick completion of the privatization process to save the corporation from further decline.

my mum worked 23 years in KAC 1971-1994. And I have flown them every year from 1994 to 2007 to JFK/ORD from KWI.

Its glory years I feel were 1993-1998 when its A 340s, AB6s, A 310s and B 777s were pretty new. In 94 though we flew their B 747-200 to JFK...lovely flight.

Its really sad what has become of this airline over the past decade.

Kuwait Govt every year for the past 5 years has made a budget surplus of US$ 25-30 billion. If only few years ago, they could have given KU US$ 2.5 billion for a total fleet and brand image make over, we would have seen a whole new airline altogether.

I dont know whether its new "private share holders" will have the much needed cash to replace its entire aging fleet of wide bodied aircraft

KAC is officially being sold, they will transition the entire company to the new management by March end and this time its happening for real. Plus currently they are under going the Audit process in determining the real value of the company so it can be sold for the right price....Plus yeah they did recruit 16 more f/o and after the sale of the company there will probably be no hiring since majority of the pilots have decided to stick around plus they have to balance the books hence there will be more layoffs than hiring....just my 2 cents

There is already rumblings that the March date will be moved forward.

It has still yet to be determined who will stay or go. This is more of a negotiation tactics by the pilots.
