fish Atlantic Airlines Cadet

Hey

I am currently looking at applying for the Atantic Airlines / West Altantic cadet programme at Coventry . I have done the majority of my PPL at that airport (until it became unlicenced) and I do live in Coventry city so I think I may be decent idea to have a shot at applying for it, I was wondering if anyone else had applyed for it in the past or has been sucessful on it .

Thanks in advance

Ewan

I too finished the PPL at the airfield until it became unlicenced.
Recruitment waves for this one don't seem to follow any pattern, so it seems best to get your application off as soon as you can, to join the pile. If they intake again any time soon that is.

Ah OK thanks :-) . Ill need to get the last of the PPL done and dusted then, I have got Qualifying XC to do and the Skills Test obviously. Hopefully CVT will be reopened after Easter (knock wood) and that may spur some life into Atlantic airlines, and Ill have a decent airport to do my skills test in

Atlantic have just had a cadet join in the last few weeks, so there will probably be no cadet recruitment for 4-6 months I would say. Also, it is a pre-requisite to have a PPL and Class 1, I dont think you will be able to defer entry until you have these. In other words, have them in hand before you apply.

Plenty has been written on this forum about the NPT cadet scheme, how its run, etc. A search may be worthwhile, the scheme, and the company (although radically different from how it was a few years ago) is still not for everyone. Better (in my opinion) to decide early its not for you, than to accept a place and leave after a week.

spur some life into Atlantic airlines
Still plenty of life in the company! Just because we are not in and out of Cov at all hours of the day and night, doesnt mean we are not still working hard!

Good Luck.

I guess I have always had a soft spot for Atlantic, the L-188 is one of my favourite aircraft of all time , and the BAe ATP has sentimental value as one of the people who got me interested in Aviation was a Captain when BA Scotland operated them from Glasgow .

Can i ask what attracts you guys to apply for a cadetship with this mob?
Because other than a different scheme im currently in the run for, what else is there to get a kickstart in the industry without shelling out unscrupulous amounts of money without even a sniff of a job at the end?

Old doesn't mean unsafe.

Not everyone wants to fly a modern jet. This would be an absolute dream job for me and I would gladly spend 5 years driving around freight/staff for a sniff of a job flying these aircraft. Unfortunately I think the cadet scheme is a young mans game and would not pay enough to support a family.

Good luck to all those applying for this - looks like Roxy Chick won't be applying, so that's one less of the competition to worry about - proper flying

This is a fantastic way into the industry, if you hold a PPL and have no commitments this must be the best opportunity to get a chance at commercial flying, whilst learning a lot about the other aspects of flying and experiencing some different types along the way. If I didn't have commitments, I would definately apply for this.

alright guys,

I sent my application off about 2-3 weeks ago. Does anyone know approximately how long before next selection? multiflight said about 3 months(about 3 weeks ago!) but i suspect that people at atlantic will have a better idea of when this will be. This scheme sounds like one of the best ways of gettin into the industry, hands on!

I have also applied for the Cadetship. I received an email from the Operations Manager at Multi-Flight saying that they will consider you for selection with anything from PPL up to, but not including the IR.... so basically if you have your ATPL exams and a CPL you could still apply.
I sent in my application a few weeks ago and called to confirm its receipt and the lady i spoke to said they would be selecting from the applications from the next step in 2-3 months time.

Does anyone have any information on the t&c's for the cadets? How much are you paid while in the cadetship? How long you will be a cadet if you already have the ATPL exams and a CPL etc?

Thanks

To answer some of your questions (hopefully!):

Yes, it is a young mans (or womans!) game. You will be paid National Minimum Wage while you are a cadet, and be expected to work 6-7 days per week, as well as spending approx. one month in every three working in Sweden, along with long / antisocial hours. Atlantic will not discriminate on the basis of your personal circumstances, however i really don't see how you can make it work if you have a family. It's hard enough to do it with a supportive boy/girlfriend.

The chaps in Leeds will have a better idea than me, but traditionally Atlantic have 2 intakes per year, one in the new year, another in late autumn. Having just taken on a new cadet recently, I cant see them taking another for at least 6 months. However, for a start date in 6 months, you might start the application process in 3-4 months.

Atlantic will accept people up to ATPL theory / CPL stage, however you will be expected to do the same length of time as a driver / dogsbody as if you had just a PPL. The reason for this is to make sure no one "jumps the queue" on the basis of training they have already recieved. It also allows them to standardise the training recieved. The usual timeline for a cadet is to start ATPL theory after 4-6 months, then start CPL/IR about a month after completion of the theory exams. Usually it takes about 20 months from PPL - fATPL, and after that you will probably be on the next type rating that the company runs. You will get a say in which fleet you would prefer, but it is very much "needs must" as far as crewing goes.

Check out the other threads on this subject, they are out there.

All the best
