FE needs help/Midex

I am sending this email out in regards to Phillip A Hale being held in the UAE for employment contract violation with Midex Airlines back in 2009. I worked at Midex as well as many other people you may know and all will tell you that they violated the contract as they wished and we had no help from any one. Long story short Phil did not like the treatment and fled UAE back to the USA. A few weeks back Phil was asked to crew a DC8-73 to Fujarah, UAE. The company he was working for said they checked his status in the UAE and he was clear to go. When they landed Phil was arrested and in jail for 6 days until surrendering his passport. He is in house arrest at a hotel their awaiting trial Feb. 4, 2014. They say Phil owes 30,000 US dollars. This amount is not correct it should only be about 4,100 but they say 30,000 or 2 years prison. I will copy the paragraph of the contract below which states he owes no more than 15,000 UAE which is about 4,100 US dollars. The USA embassy says they will not help or get involved.

"Should the contract be terminated for whatever reason before one year from the first day of employment, the Employee shall reimburse the company for any immigration/visa expenses, as well as any training expenses, that the company may have incurred on behalf of the Employee. This reimbursement shall not exceed Fifteen thousand AED (15,000.00 Dhs) for residency expenses. Training expenses/costs are refunded in full by the Employee."

Time is running out quickly. Please help if you can in any amount and please pass to other people that you think can help in some way. Feel free to call me for verification. You can contact Phil directly at the hotel in room 904. +97192236888

They take a very serious view towards debt in that part of the world, regardless of either unwillingness or inability to pay. So, if you skip the country and then go back.... hmmmm....

Angry

I had the banking instructions where to send a donation to help Phil but the moderator pulled it. I guess PM me and I can email it to you. Come on guys you all know Midex is the worst. Get the word out to all your friends. If we can get this out to 30,000 people and get $1.00 per person we can get Phil out of the UAE. Now get it in gear Feb. 4th is approaching very fast. How would you like to be in a UAE prison?

Yes i agree. how about those of us that left the correct way?
They cheated us out of many thousand USD final pay.
Either sign the final pay statement or you did not even get the last months salary due if contested this, end of service pay, vacation pay earned etc.
Its good someone removed the bank details, too much corruption worse than Midex in this area.
The contract was not even filed with the labor board as required in the UAE.
Based in al ain, company in DXB, labor card registered in Ras Alkama.
Not even a legal contract, how did we all get work and residence visa?
This POS company thinks they can do what ever they want.
What goes around will always come back around, time is on our side.
I never forget.

Can nobody read? The clause in the contract states that the 15,000 Dhs is for residency expenses and that all training costs are to be re-funded in full by the Employee. That being said, I guess that $30,000 US might be a legitimate figure.
By all means help this guy get out of UAE, but realise that he was in breach of contract and they are only asking for what was contractually agreed by him. Would you give the same help to a colleague who did the same in the US or Europe?
Just because Midex are a bunch of ********s doesn't mean they can't expect the courts to uphold their rights, even though the courts would not support a foreign worker against them!
Moral of the story, beware of any employment in the UAE, as they do not actually have any employment laws that respect foreign workers.

..."The company he was working for said they checked his status in the UAE and he was clear to go."
Engage an attorney and go after The Company to pay the fine; impose a lien on the DC-8, if parked or when transiting U.A.E. until case is settled.

Midex

Hello Wheelbarrow,

In order for an airline to make money from you they either have to train you or get you recurrent on type. Most of us at mudex needed to get recurrent.
This does not cost anything near $30,000, even with the residency visa.
When you give 1 months notice to resign & they refuse your resignation, also hold your salary, you have no other choice but to leave the country.
This would not happen in Europe or the US. They simply do not have excuse or right to treat people the way they do.
Another thing to note about mudex is they would never hire black people or females. That shows their true colors.
Take care
