Greek islands (Leros, Patmos, Kalymnos)

Last weekend flight's pictures over some little islands in the Aegean sea; It's more of a yachter's than an aviator's gallery I guess

Koli,
Nice to see that you've managed to find a replacement for 'AJ. I recognise it, as it used to be based at Wycombe.

Not P1 on this occasion .... but a great trip for a venison burger and a pint of Guinness

Oubound from GLA - Dumbarton Rock

Well above the Restricted Area ... can't see any Nuke Subs anyway though

Forced landing options ...... limited !!!

VFR .... clear of cloud and in sight of the surface

Passing Ben Cruachan

In the 'fjiords' near Oban

Oban town and bay

Lismore Island ... and Ben Nevis way up North

On long final for Glenforsa (Mull) - not IFR country

When in Scotland ... you have to have a 'wee dram'

Almost 'night' on Mull

Heed the local advice ... this pilot was told to stay within the runway markers because of 'rabbit burrows', but hey, what do the local yokels know ??

Thats not strictly true about that PA28 with the dinked prop. The guys was taxying behind another aircraft, it was just lucky the first aircraft missed the hole. Worst thing is a few days before the incident i had just finished running in new pistons on that aircraft! I hear the hole that it went in to was pretty deep.

Arrow Pictures from Greece

Some of my recent flights in Greece

Kastelorizo LGKJ in the Southeastern edge of the country

Aircraft carrier type of airfield carved out of a mountain

Leros LGLE

A scary approach when you come from the south (most often) through the funnel formed by the hills on final approach.

Porto Heli LGHL

One of the most beautiful settings for an aviator in Greece. Private airfield with a land site that includes private marina, vila's and the landing strip. Unfortunatelly the land value in the area has increased a lot; at the same time the owner sold his plane to buy a helicopter hence he decided to close the airfield to fixed wing visitors. :-(

Hydra port

The port of cosmopolitan Hydra SE of Porto Heli

Spetses

Spetses island South of Porto Heli

Santorini LGSR

The extinct volcano

Some close up's on the build up an the edge of the cliffs ...

All of the above pictures can be seen in full size at my on line albums here :

Strathaven, South Lanarkshire.

Strathaven last week, part way through the first grass cutting of the season, the fat white trailer beside the green nissen hangar is the XCAviation Elf;

Strathaven listed as a stop off on a Round Britain Air Rally;

Re-size Strathaven

Apologies BRL,

Initial size was to permit optifying local South Lanarkshire features.

On the matter of re-size, haven't checked this out yet, but I'm told that - seemingly - one of the commercially available UK airfield guides lists the 530metre Strathaven main landing ground as 730metres.

Cheerie!
