Hi guys,

I suspect I can guess what the answer to the following is but thought I would check with the guys that would know for sure.

I know the 10 hours Instrument training from the CPL course credits a reduction in the required hours for an IR rating. Is the same true for the IMC rating? any discount at all? :-(

Yes I think it is LASORS if you look carefully. You get a reduction of 10 hours toward the 15 hours IMC requirement.

Cheers for the response.

That wasnt the answer I was expecting but certainly is excellent news.

Im just downloading Lasors now to find the specifics, 74mb over dialup - nice!

Credit or not could you pass the test after the next 5 hours? Although the hold is not part of the syllabus there is time to squeeze it in for a bright student with some previous IF experience. It is tempting to claim credit but have you been assessed by an IMC instructor yet? If this is to be the basis of your professional life a few hours extra may serve you well. JAA CPL(A) exempts the IMC written. PPL plus night gives 3 hours credit. AOPA nav cert gives you 5 hours but unless it has changed recently CPL(A) does not. Good luck. Hope this helps,it's great to be able to use the IMC!

Hi Skycam,

My longterm plan is to do the full Multi-IR unfotunatley thats not financially viable for me right now so I have been looking into various cheaper "interim" solutions while I save.

I was looking into the single engine IR but most schools only seem to do training for this in the aircraft as opposed to the sim which pushes the price right up and also the £700 to the CAA is a big chunk to pay twice.

Great to have CPL but do not forget the clock is ticking you need an IR BEFORE THE 3 YEARS FROM FINAL ATPL PASS. Several people fail to do this every year and it is a great shame. Get a good IR instructor and do it over a longer period to ensure you absorb everything before flying off a lump sum. Hour building is expensive but can be productive especially if IMC current and capable. Cheers

I'm informed that the IMC rating training is not count toward the 10 hours minimum for the CPL. It is a national rating and not recognised in the JAR training.

Ridiculous, but on the practical side IMC training is never a waste.

It only adds another £2K to the price; what do we care?
