Insensitive or what? Or is it a case of business is business? But a well known handlng agent in the London area recently invoiced US carriers 50% of the handling fee because they did not fly on Sep 12,13 and part flying on the 14th.
Whilst I am sure they were invoking a clause in the contract, dont you think they have just gone just a bit too far?Whats your opinion?

Don't think so. Having experience with London handling agents al all 4 London airports, the answer is simple.

Pay the money, then take your business to the competition.

Considering that the US airlines got government aid for the days after 11 Sep, isnt it fair that they must pay their suppliers?

AFARTS radio yesterday was talking about the companies who had offices in the WTC still having to pay their rent. Although the owner of the WTC hasn’t billed them, they are still liable. As is the owner who actually rented the buildings from the Port Authority. He is actually the one responsible for rebuilding the property and returning it to the P.A.

What a crazy world we live in. :)

"Considering that the US airlines got government aid for the days after 11 Sep, isnt it fair that they must pay their suppliers?" Must say I kind of agree. If the handling agent was entitled to 100% of whatever the amount is, and are only invoicing for 50%, that is a concession of sorts. In the wake of the attacks handling agents must be hurting as much as the airlines, and I don't recall them getting billion dollar federal handouts.

Mrs Porky and I were stranded in the USA post the 11th. It was interesting to see who claimed their full pounds of flesh from us and who waived the charges.
Claiming for the lot were the hotel and Hertz. Being very helpful was America West.
Waiving all excess charges were BAA/NCP.
Well done to the latter!

Indiana Jones - I work for a handling agent and I agree with you: totally out of order! If it wasn't for the airlines we wouldn't be here.
