Reading all the posts here on the Middle East forum I am beginning to wonder whether we are actually witnessing the start of the exodus of professional personnel out of the Middle eastern carriers. Is this the beginning of the end of aviation here in the fatamorgana the middle east has always been?
• Emirates, once considered as the Walhalla for every sane pilot, the retirement heaven in Dubai, is struggling to keep up with about everything. Pilots are complaining and leaving as soon as they can, Engineers are taking off faster than the airplanes can on a search for greener pastures, Cabin crew leaves with dozens at the time because they are overstressed and overworked etc etc.
• Qatar Airways, a company that has always been short of any crew with a licence, is now even struggling more. Cabin crew is resigning with batches at the time because they simply had enough of the abuse, ALL pilots are big time viewers on the flight international site looking for another job, Engineers are not leaving in the same numbers as EK simply because QR never had the same number of engineers working for them but still they are leaving as well,…
• Etihad is being poisoned by its management and the internal political games are festering through the building like a wildfire, Few people are willing to go there, many people want to get out once they see the mess the company is in.
• GF, Oman Air, Kuwait Airways, where it is relatively quiet, simply because nothing at all is happening there…
People used to come here for the money and some people used to come here for the lifestyle. Both things now have disappeared. Huge inflation rates, rising cost of living, rising population and greedy nationals acting like small children with too many toys have made this part of the world much less attractive then it used to be.
The problem is that this is not only happening in our little world of aviation. No, it is happening throughout all the layers of this society. In all companies high level expatriates are leaving. The reason being the mistreatment by the management. People here still seem to think that you can treat everybody just like they have been treating the maid/driver/tea boy for years in a row. Hire a professional under false statements, become his sponsor, give him an RP, make up a new contract and he is stuck because now he needs a release letter to leave….
This is the basic mentality here….So nothing gets done, everybody is unhappy.
And its only going to get worse when in two years time the whole system of sponsors/release letters etc has to be stopped…
It is my opinion that what the middle east was in the eighties and nineties, is exactly what the far east will be like tomorrow. They need us there and they too have the money to pay us. So unless managements here get their acts together, they better start ordering airplanes because there is going to be no one left to fly them, maintain them, refuel them etc…
