View Full Version : Best deal for new instructors?

Well I've finally decided to dip my toes into the instructing pond. Since it's going to damn near bankrupt me I would really appreciate anyone's opinion as to which UK flying school offers the best package for new instructors? Money is the main issue here (since I don't seem to have any) and of course actually working at a place where you get hours in the logbook, any other deal sweeteners would be gratefully accepted.

Also - the homework I've done has basically committed to the self sponsored instructor route. I've looked at most of the places that sponsor instructors but the maths don't seem to add up, you end up losing ten or fifteen grand in reduced wages over the course of your average two year bond for the privilege of not having to buy a four grand course? A bank loan seems like a better option to me. Are there any exceptions to this rule that you lot are aware of?

Hi Sunburn,

I was in the same boat as you a couple of years ago. In fact I was offered an Instructor's sponsorship, but I turned it down after I did the sums.

Since then I have paid myself for an FI(R) and BCPL and have nearly got my FATPL. When you are looking at a school try to see the overall picture. It's okay to just teach PPL out of a grass field somewhere, but you may want to expand your teaching ability to Night and IMC qualifications/ratings. Maybe you might want to teach at a commercial level. Check to see if your prospective school offers these openings.

Cash, well sorry it's about £12K on the average, but it's great fun and very rewarding. If you can't afford the pay cut what about Instructing part time?

Have fun!

I agree, get a bank loan rather than sponsorship. All you want is a busy school. Doesn“t matter where or what but make sure you can work flat out.

Best of luck,
