A C152, not field length limited, no adverse cross wind. Select flaps 20 or 30 to land? Any preferences or reasons for one over the other?

Land Flap was designed for landing so why not use it.

Absolutely correct!! I was taught to use 40 flap when I learned to fly at Cranfield - fortunately we had brand new Reims F150s - so at least we could manage full-flap go-arounds!!

If it a C152 with max 30 flap - Land with it
If it a C150 with max 40 flap - Land with it
If it a PA28 with max 40 flap - Land with it
Unless, of course it's a glide and it won't reach with full flap

Pull back - Pigs get smaller
Pull back some more - Pigs get bigger again
Practice Both in case the flap motor burns out ,and you have to land it without flaps without practice.
Worse case is when the fuse blows on a go around and you can't get the flaps up ,what a drag.

I own a C150, although I dont instruct. I was taught to use 20 degrees for a "normal" landing. Unless you need to correct a high approach or you want to make a short field landing, there is no point in using more - in fact you will just need more power and make more noise. I agree with the point about flap motor burn-outs -- it has happened to me twice. My view is that you should teach students to land on all the available flap settings - flexibility is important - you wouldnt expect a golfer to only learn to use one club. You could also show the more able students how to use sideslip instead of flap -- its fun, and could be valuable in a forced landing with dead electrics.
