Pre JAR ops, all instructing by a UK licenced instructor (apart from exemption for the channel islands), had to be done within the UK. With JAR ops, and European harmonisation, can I now take a student to say France and still have the hours count for instructional purposes?

Foxmoth, you have got your regulations mixed up. Pre JAA it was perfectly acceptable for
an UK instructor in a 'G' reg aircraft to instruct students outside of the UK. I even sent first solo's in France!

Foxmoth. You also appear to have your JARs mixed up. Its JAR-FCL not JAR-OPS. If you are flying a UK registered aircraft it won't make the slightest difference.

....but do I remember reading that the student must have a medical certificate valid in the country that he/she wishes to fly solo in.
If the Ministry of Aeroplanes (Gatwick) is still issuing UK medicals then it may not be valied...or am I talking <expletive deleted>?
