The reason you see more negativity than positive views about EK is for the simple reason that those with negative views are far more likely to spout off on anonymous internet forums than those who are fairly happy with their life.

I'm sure exactly the same happened with Air Canada or whoever you are with over there.

Normally once you are selectEd.they will make you sit for authorization interview to test your knowledge.then you have to sit for air law mcq and essay.until the time you get temporary approval for 6 months to certify.if you can't pass air law or essay then you can't get gcaa license.then you will lose your job eventually.if you make it pass all this you experience what I said.trust me your family will not enjoy that much unless you are from third world country and Dubai offers better than those person's home country.in your case I don't think so.you can't get rich but I m sure you can save like 3000usd a month with decent life style

Good Advice

There is nothing stopping you taking a job with them and if you don,t pass any of the gcaa exams don,t worry about it, EK don,t care they will let you sit around for months on end doing absolutely nothing, just come in and blag it! Take the exams, fail them a few times, before you know it around 1 to 2 years will pass by and you will have taken their money and done................well not a lot! Then you can say Bye bye! and move on Cheers easy!!!

Take them for a ride......this is what they do to others!! Why not hey!!

I would not count on this. After some guys lived this, clever EK changed the employment rules. Now you have 3 strikes to get your GCAA license.

1.fail : written warning
2. fail: Final
3. fail: out

Good luck and keep discovering............................................

EK Engineering Selected on hold

Hi Everyone,

I did an interview with EK Engineering back in Feb and was told I have been "selected on hold". The reason being I had to regain currency on a type. I have since completed this and have been told recently that they are just awaiting a vacancy and I will be selected.

I am just wondering has anyone been in a similar situation or does anyone know do Emirates Engineering have a pool for new recruits (I believe they have for pilots). This is not a major problem I am just wondering does anyone have an idea of what sort of timeframe I could expect before I am selected.

Any information would be gratefully received,

Thank You,

A330-2

I had the same. I did not get selected but was told that I was to be placed on Hold. But they did not say that if a vacancy arouse I would be selected.
But I have to say the interview was good and the UK Line Maint manager seemed a nice guy. I was expecting a grilling and the Line Maint manager to make me sweat!!
I was dissappointed not to get it but hey ho..... I still love my job at the mo.

Hello to CAP77

Hello mate
I have read this whole tread and parts are correct about EK.
At the end of the day you will get the courses. You will get housing and schooling and good benefits to travel the world for bugger all.
At the end of the day its not all about the money (as the contractors keep on saying). It's about lifestyle.
I have many friends in EK and enjoy the world under the EK umbrella of benefits.

I understand Toronto is closing for EK engineers hence the reason you might be looking to come to DXB. Hang in there for the application.

Don't listen to the average contractor that is single/divorced because of the money drug.

@ A330-2

If I didn't know EK that well I wouldn't believe you saying...

... they are just awaiting a vacancy and I will be selected.

We are so short-staffed I can almost not believe they put you on hold in the first place! Unless your application was for a specific outstation ofcourse since some stations are 'fully staffed' (according to EK). I also wonder why (not that it's the strangest thing to happen at EK) they interviewed you in the first place if theres no vacancy?

Dubai has a massive shortage of engineers but things could only improve if we get more guys in. Don't be fooled though, working for EK and staying in DXB is not a walk in the park.

My feeling for the whole recruitment issue is the fact that outstations are being closed. I.E. Australia and Toronto so I think they are waiting to see if they have anybody from that.
Also I understand alot of hangar bods are up and coming with approvals.
It's all about the money at the end of the day

Why are these outstations being closed? I know that the 380's that come into Toronto get a fair bit of work done on them there... Will this work be accomplished by contractors?

Spikeboy , i would say that you are totally right ...
Basset hound , it is just outsourcing to save money and get guys to jewbai that are known by ek already ...
Poor guys , "be obliged to" , a common practise from ek ... anyway , there are other solutions ...
Some of them are not far ...
Cheers.

Outstations being closed

How many EK Engineering staff do we have in Gatwick and how many flights do we have there per day?
Heard a strong rumour that EK Engineering in Gatwick is being closed down. Possibly to try and get more guys back to home base?

Makes one wonder if your station would be next!!

Hello, I have a question regarding this thread. When you talk about "engineers", you are refering to mechanics? The problem is, I'm studying aircraft construction at the moment, so when I graduate, I'll have a Master of Engineer equivalent university degree. The problem I have is, that I'll also be called an "engineer". I'm considering working for Emirates when I have my degree and I'm looking for people with experience in that line of work to share what it's like. Is there a section for "university engineers" like me as opposed to "mechanic engineers"? Does anyone know if Emirates, Etihad or Qatar would even hire university graduates without experience?
