Windows in all it's versions comes with a built-in one.... .. .Hold down the Ctrl (or Strg) key and press the Print Screen button. The captured picture is now in the memory and you can just paste it into any graphic program, also in Word etc.. .. .Corel has also a little program which comes (if I recall correctly...) since Corel Draw 3 with the program and gives you a choice of capturing the active window or the whole screen.

The method suggested by FL310 will work even if you want a capture of only a portion of the desktop. Just paste the clipboard into Paint. Then use the selection tool there. However, if you need to capture specified rectangles often then you probably will prefer to have a utility that does that. . .. .This program is not bad for free:. .http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/files/MWSnap200.zip. .Before opening MWSnap make sure that what you want to capture is the active window. Open MWSnap, click on one of the five option buttons for the type of capture, then click on the snap button on the bottom. If you chose the "Any Rectangular Area" button then you can use the mouse to draw the desired rectangle.

Depends what you need, Mr Draper.. .As others have said, Windows has basic support built-in. Alt Print Screen gets the active window, Print Screen gets the whole thing.. .What it won't do is to grab anything that is using certain DirectX features (such as DVD playback).. .Third party products do though. Snag It is one that I can recommend.

Thanks chaps I think it is the prog using d3d that is the prob,I want to send some screen shots from a Flight sim to a mate.. .The one I had, you activated before you started the sim, then you just hit a couple of keys and it captured the screen on the fly, stored it in its own folder in in ipg formate i think, very simple to use and it worked everytime.. .I did try another one I downloaded but I could never get it to work properly.. .I think I formated my Harddisc since the last time I used it, wish I could remember the name, it was thumb 4 something.. . . . [ 24 March 2002, 12:34: Message edited by: tony draper ]

That does sound rather like Snag It. Here's the URL by the way:. . Snag It . .. .I was able to capture screen from Flight Simulator yesterday using the native Windows functionality. Of course, you can only do this one screen at time. I think the D3D problems only come in when video from a DVD or tuner is being used due to the way that the video is overlaid on the screen (i.e it is an empty window into which the video is stuffed).
