DFM citation help
G'Day all,
I am hoping someone on this forum can help me with the text of the citation for the DFM awarded to my great uncle 1075155 Alexander Armstrong Munro. The award was gazetted 11/6/1943 when he was in 61 Sqn. He later transferred to 619 Sqn and was killed on his second tour when his Lancaster (LL785, PG-W) exploded over Holland on 11/4/1944. He is buried in Eindhoven and my family would dearly love any more information on him.

John, G'day back. I'm sure you'll get the details you seek from the experts here but I believe you may have an incorrect tail number; should be LL 784, not 785.
Lancaster LL784. 619 Squadron.
X1D PG-W
Operation Aachen
11th/12th April 1944
LL784 was a Mk.1 and was delivered to 619 Sqdn 30 Jan 44. When lost this aircraft had a total of 127 hours. LL784 was one of two 619 Sqdn Lancasters lost on this operation. See: EE116. Airborne 20:43 11 Apr 44 from Coningsby. Both survivors were able to deploy their parachutes after being blown from the Lancaster as it exploded. Those killed were buried 14 Apr 44 at Eindhoven (Woensel) General Cemetery. S/L McGilvray an Edinburgh University Graduate had gained a Half-Blue for boxing. W/O Munro had flown his first tour with 61 Sqdn, details of his DFM being Gazetted 11 June 43. S/L J.W.E.D. McGilvray DFC KIA Sgt I.R.F. Haberfield KIA F/O E.A. Drake PoW F/O A.K. Baker Inj P/O J.L. Pritchard KIA Sgt R. Hillier KIA W/O A.A. Munro DFM KIA F/O A.K. Baker was confined to Hospital NK due to injuries. No PoW No. issued. F/O E.A.Drake initially evaded until captured in Brussels 19 Apr 44. Held captive in St.Gilles before internment in Camp L3, No PoW No. "

Flt Sgt A. A. MUNRO, No. 61 Sqn. This airman has flown on the majority of his operational sorties in the capacity of air gunner to his flight commander. He has taken part in raids on targets in Bremen and Essen, and also Italian objectives, Including the daylight raid on Milan.

Flight Global has a mention of him in the July 22, 1943 edition, page 107.
