I snapped this plane flying over earlier today here in Bedfordshire. It looks like an Alon A2 or Ercoupe or something like that though the tricycle undercarriage looks a little long for those. Any idea what and where it's based.

It could be an Ercoupe or an Alon A2 since the Alon A2 Aircoupe was a version of the classic Ercoupe, and manufacturered between 1964 and 1967. But then it could be Forney F1A Aircoupe G-ARHC which used to be based at Woodvale. It is believed that the aircraft still flying today 40 years on and based at Little Gransden (north of London).
Little Gransden Airfield (IATA: N/A, ICAO: EGMJ) is a licensed airfield located near the village of Little Gransden, 5 nautical miles (9.3 km) southeast of St Neots, Cambridgeshire, England.
G-ARHC has a very similar colour scheme.

That's the answer then. It was flying towards Little Gransden which was just over the hills from me.

I (briefly) flew RHC during my Flying Scholarship PPL course at Surrey and Kent at Biggin in April '63. Also there were RHG, RXS and SBC - I subsequently flew RHA and ROR as well.
It's good to see the old girl is still going strong in what appears to be the self same colour scheme. 44 years later I too am still in harness.
The best part of the Aircoupe was flying along with "the windows" open, the flying qualities were somewhat dubious for ab-initio training and spinning and stalling had to be done on the Chipmunk due to the former's inability to do either!
