Look guys! Just how many times do you want me to say that by NOT following the standard for pics ( 850x850 ) you are just spoiling it for others and for me who has to keep reminding you. It getting grotty I can tell you.
If you don't comply with this limitation i will have to resort to removing the post the pics are on.
The point is that some of you re-size the page with a little twiddle - not all have that and in case, VERY wide pages just makes it difficult for the majority.
Don't say I haven't warned you. Please adjust them now.

Interestingly angled shot on the Convair. As the site of the drag bodies is concealed by engines it's difficult to tell if it's an 880 or 990.
Production lists etc suggest AA operated the latter but the example here looks smaller than the Spantax 990s I remember.

American Airlines never operated the 880. The aircraft is a Convair 990 Astrojet. The clear difference is the size of the engine intake diameter, given that the 880 was powered by GE CJ805-3 turbojets which produced 11,650 lbs st., versus the 990's CJ-805-23B turbofans, producing 16,050 lbs. st. each. Unique to the CJ805-23Bs was the aft located bypass fan stage.
